Cherry, Mayor team to clear blight

Houston Mayor Annise Parker recently sat atop a Cherry excavator as it took a huge chunk out of one of the Inwood Oaks apartment buildings in northwest Houston. Cherry took on the job of demolishing the dilapidated 22-building, 242-unit complex, which had been vacant for more than four years. The City is using federal funds to demolish blighted properties to make space for construction of affordable housing.
