Residential shingles

Cherry accepts and recycles tear-off residential composition asphalt shingles at two of our recycling centers. We accept used and manufacturer waste shingles at no charge. Cherry also can deliver trailers for customers to fill with removed shingles and then return to pick them up for recycling.

Shingles should be “clean,” meaning that the shingle load must not contain any wood, paper or other debris. However, Cherry does accept metal flashing for recycling and supplies trash bags and dumpsters for disposal of paper and debris generated from shingle job sites—all at no charge.

Giving shingles a second life

We use special grinder machines to process the shingles into hot-mix asphalt material used for road paving and cold patch materials and as dust suppressants for crushed concrete roads throughout Texas.

Using recycled asphalt shingles in hot-mix can actually improve the pavement’s performance by increasing its resistance to wear and moisture and decreasing deformation, thermal fatigue and cracking.

Asphalt shingle recycling helps reduce construction and demolition waste, which is the goal of many states as well as the Environmental Protection Agency. In addition, shingle recycling contributes to sustainability in construction practices, as well as green building objectives.
